When one hears the town of Cavinti what comes to mind is a rectangular thin slice of sweet delicacy neatly wrapped in talulo (dried thallus of betel nut tree). This is a delightful viscous native delicacy that is made from ground glutinous rice, cooked in rich coconut milk and sweetened with ample amount of brown sugar. Also, the town is known for the celebrated kalamay, another native delicacy though sticky to the palate.
Most households are engaged in hat – making. These are dried straw leaves intricately woven into simple yet fanciful sambalilo (straw hat). The finished products are marketed in the nearby towns and even at Metropolitan Manila. The production of native hats in large quantities has made the town the, “Sambalilo Capital of Laguna.”
On the forested part of the town, a sense of awe awaits every nature lover at the El Pueblo San Salvador, a newly developed wood land resort that unfolds the town’s natural wonders. It uncovers a series of waterfalls coming from the untouched gorges of the Sierra Madre mountain range giving the most adventurous spirits something to indulge in.
